David Fischer After being introduced to Gevurah's glorious work Gehinnom by Father Ippocalyptica (thanks again!), I am now moving backwards through their discography. There is something about their music that just stands out. The four pieces ov Sulphur Soul feel illustrious, even transcendental in structure, yet aggressive and punishing. This is black metal for your next - however-induced - astral projection or meditation. A perfectly both brisk and crisp half-hour experience with a grand finale. Favorite track: Black Sun Thaumiel.

Misplaced Maesh A ferocious EP done by Gevurah of Montreal Favorite track: The Putrid Stench Of Rotting Flesh.

Alastor Blake nasty and brutal as hell. Favorite track: Mark Of Lucifer.
Ippocalyptica
Ippocalyptica thumbnail
Ippocalyptica Hallelujah! was one of the best black metal debut albums of the past five years, so expectations were naturally high for this follow-up EP. While just under half the running time of Hallelujah!, this album is equal in intensity, but with an even stronger grip on dynamic songwriting and slightly better instrumental prowess. Sulphur Soul solidifies Gevurah’s status as one of the best black metal acts currently operating, and I cannot wait for their next full-length release. Hail Satan! Favorite track: Across The Primordial Sea.
Choco Latte

Choco Latte Quebec has long been Canada's bastion for black metal, and its frigid winters are conducive to the music. Gevurah's potent blend uses some of that heritage, but takes more inspiration from a blazing inferno. Another excellent offering from this duo. Favorite track: The Putrid Stench Of Rotting Flesh.

about

“Sulphur Soul”, the latest offering from Canadian black metal entity GEVURAH continues and builds upon the massive sonic trajectory laid down with the band’s ambitious 2016 debut LP “Hallelujah!” one of said year’s most soaring monuments within the black metal scene. With “Sulphur Soul”, GEVURAH continue to explore their more aggressive and punishing aspect of their sound while still developing it even further into more complex and challenging realms. The four hymns of praise that encompass the 32-vitriolic minutes that grace “Sulphur Soul” present some of the most intense, dynamic and uncompromising GEVURAH material yet and serves its purpose as a reflection on how the Montreal-based duo (consisting of vocalist/guitarist/drummer X.T. and guitarist/bassist A.L.) encircle their ever expansive sonic palette of ritual with a new heightened sense of brutality and atmosphere, all while upholding the dark essence and the transcendental spiritual aura that surrounds their being.
